The Importance of Patrick Roberts Signing with Celtic

After tonight’s game away to Thistle Celtic are now one game away from going unbeaten for the entire season. It has been quite a remarkable season for the hoops; having a promising Champions league campaign, winning the league cup, walking over rangers and are in the Scottish cup final. Celtics current squad is filled with quality and has a considerable amount of depth but it will be a key move if the hoops can manage to secure Patrick Roberts on a permeant deal, or even back for next season on loan.

At mid-season Roberts was out of the squad and it looked as if there would be no chance of a Celtic return for the 20-year-old midfielder. However, since then he has been phenomenal, chipping in with goals and assists, he has arguable been Celtics best player in the past month or two. Roberts has scored 9 league goals this season for Celtic and is the most skillful player in the Celtic attack.

There have been circulating rumours that Celtic are attempting to bring back Roberts for next season, which will be crucial for Celtics Champions league campaign. Assuming Celtic make the Champions league group stage next season, which with the current form of the champions I believe they will, it is very important that Celtic bring Roberts back to Celtic Park. Roberts is a player of Champions league quality and if the hoops want to push for the last 16 he will need to play a key part in the team.

If Celtic don’t sign Roberts James Forrest will have to find the form he had earlier in the season. The Scottish winger has improved immensely since last season and has played a big role for Celtic this season, Roberts the more skillful of the two but both players are full of quality.
